Half the World Is Burning at Once, and the Bottleneck in Putting It Out Is a Handful of Companies: Retardants, Aircraft and Fire Trucks
Ever-longer fire seasons and years of underinvestment are forcing governments to buy, and the pricing power sits with a handful of suppliers of retardants, aircraft and firefighting vehicles.

Causal chain: Fires and heatwaves on three continents → Decades of underinvestment in firefighting capacity → Forced, multi-year procurement cycle by governments and the EU (rescEU) → Pricing power and growing backlog at a narrow group of suppliers → Perimeter Solutions (Phos-Chek retardant) → Bombardier (515 firefighting amphibians) → Rosenbauer (fire trucks and equipment)

Report of 22 Aug 2026 names De Havilland Canada, not Bombardier, as builder of the Canadair 515, and reports the six countries (Greece 7, Spain 7, Italy/France/Croatia/Portugal 2 each) have already ordered all 22 aircraft, first flight 2027, deliveries from 2028. There is no Bombardier letter-of-intent left to convert.

Fires on three continents at once expose a bottleneck no one is pricing in
Right now Washington State is burning (tens of thousands evacuated), along with Greece (a fatal mid-air collision between two firefighting helicopters), Spain (where Polish firefighters have been deployed) and southern Europe, choked by a heatwave described as a tsunami of heat. The market reads this as another seasonal drama. That is a mistake. The real investment story is not that things are burning, but who sells what puts the fires out, and why there are so few of those suppliers.
