The driver
El Nino puts a lid on Atlantic hurricanes through wind shear and a drier mid-level atmosphere, and 2026 is running as one of the quietest seasons on record. The climatological peak is 10 September. It has now passed without a major hurricane making landfall in Florida. There is still an October tail, and it is real, but the bulk of the distribution is behind us. That single meteorological fact resolves two separate economic questions for the small group of listed insurers whose entire book sits in the state.
